Add A Voice sets great store by the high standard of our volunteer advocates. Through the Direct Advocacy Service our volunteer advocates work with individuals over the age of 18 who need someone to either speak up on their behalf or to support them to speak up for themselves to ensure that the individuals needs, wishes and views are listened to and respected.
"My son had been excluded from school. We attended meetings, but we didn't really seen to get anywhere. I felt quite intimidated as there were so many people representing the school's point of view and even though my son has a social worker, I needed someone for me. Add A Voice found me an advocate who has worked with us throughout the case. I feel much better knowing there is someone putting our views across."
"I worked for an entertainment business that employs a lot of young people like me. Manager said we had no rights to have a union, and then I found I was suspended from work due to a made up allegation and was expected to attend a disciplinary meeting at very short notice. Add A Voice contacted ACAS to find out what my rights were. They also contacted my managers, who got quite nervous that I had asked for support. The disciplinary was dropped."
"I have had a lot of problems over the years, which meant that my youngest child was taken into care. I am trying to get back on track and want to eventually win custody, although I know this will take time. I have a really great advocate. She listens, but is honest about how things are going. She helps me put across what I want to say. I used to get really angry, so I got a bit of a reputation with the social workers, but having an advocate support me has really helped."
